Alarm Package for BID Clients
Monday, 10 November 2008

CVone has, through their contact with Action against Business Crime (a non profit making organisation), secured access to an Intruder Alarm package which provides an attractive opportunity to BID customers who seek a system which will provide monitored protection for their premises by a nationally approved Security Monitoring Company.

The offer provides the client with the opportunity to have a basic alarm system installed and commissioned free of any charge with a requirement for them to agree to a 36 month aftercare & monitoring contract costing £41.13 per month inclusive of VAT.

The system has been aggressively priced because Action against Business Crime was formed to do one thing- reduce business crime.

The company is a NSI (NACOSS) approved Gold Monitoring Station and the system is SSAIB certified

The alarm system can be extended for a small additional cost to include extra sensors, smoke detectors, flood detectors and additional door contacts all of which can be added at the time of installation or at a later date. The alarm system also has provision to include ‘Lone Worker' protection within it.

The company will alert local Police in the event of an alarm activation and BID customers can also request that the alarm be passed to the BID Security Patrols so that they can also attend.

Coventry B4B Business directory helps boost leads for Coventry businesses!
Monday, 13 October 2008
Coventry B4B's business directory, which automatically submits information to search engines such as Google and Yahoo, has helped raise the profile of several Coventry Businesses.

Reds Sports Bar had no presence on the internet and prior to creating a directory entry on Coventry Best For business, a search for "Reds Sports Bar" would return information about the Red Onion Sports Bar in Guernsey, information about parking near a Red's Sports Bar in Houston and the Red Lion Sports Bar in Cambridge.

Now, an international search for "Reds Sports Bar" or "Coventry Sports Bar" (and several other variations) will both return information about Reds Sports bar on Google's front page, with the former being in the much coveted number one spot at the top of the listings.

Business Directory

We have also helped boost the online visibility of many other businesses that have registered on the website and created a business directory entry similar to those offered by yell.com or Thompson directory, but at no additional cost!

Small to Medium Enterprises with little or no web presence could gain massively from a directory entry, which is available to BID Levy payers at no additional cost. Sign up to our website and help improve your marketing and web visibility now!

BID Patrol prevents burglary in Binns Close
Tuesday, 23 September 2008

A Coventry Best for Business mobile security patrol prevented a potential burglary in Binns Close.

The security cars, which are funded by the city-wide Business Improvement District (BID) scheme, were carrying out a patrol when they disturbed a man who was trying to break into a business.

The Police were called and a Police dog followed the suspect's track, but lost the scent.

George Want, business crime advisor, said: "We had been conducting extra patrols in the area following information supplied from the Active Intelligence Mapping System about problems.

"Our patrol cars normally visit a site at least three times a day - but because of problems they had been doing extra visits.

"When they arrived, they spotted a problem and judging by the damage, the person was close to breaking in.

"We will continue to have a heavy security presence in the area and if BID businesses would like to discuss crime prevention, I welcome them to get in touch."

The 24/7 mobile security patrols visit every business and industrial park in the city, along with roads such as Torrington Avenue.

They are part of security measures introduced by the city-wide BID, which covers 2,500 businesses in Coventry.

New Legislation - Display Energy Certificates
Friday, 19 September 2008

When are Display Energy Certificates required?

What buildings are affected?

Only buildings with a total useful floor area over 1000 square metres that are occupied or part occupied either by public authorities and by institutions providing public services to a large number of people and therefore visited by those persons are affected by this legislation.

Where a building is partly occupied by a public authority or a relevant institution, the authority or institution is responsible for displaying a DEC and having a valid advisory report.

Other private organisations occupying the building, irrespective of the size they occupy, do not need to display a DEC. See A guide to Display Energy Certificates and advisory reports for public buildings.

If you are still unsure about whether you need to display a DEC, please contact 0845 365 2468 or e-mail This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it to check.

What is required and when?

By 1 October 2008 if you are an occupier of a building requiring a DEC you will need to display the certificate showing an Operational Rating in a prominent place clearly visible to the public.

By 1 October 2008 you will also need to have a valid advisory report.

If you are a new occupier, or have been in occupation for less than 15 months by 1 October 2008, you may not have 12 months of meter readings available that are required for an Operational Rating. The legislation makes provisions for calculation over the period of occupation in these cases.

DECs must be renewed every 12 months.

If you are in possession of an Energy Performance Certificate - which are currently being introduced and will be required for the sale, rent or construction of all buildings from October 2008 - you will have an Asset Rating for the building. This must also be displayed on the DEC.
