Coventry BID businesses are being urged to try and slash their energy bills, through the scheme's cost reduction service. Companies in the Business Improvement District scheme have been offered the service since December 2008 - and, so far, a total saving of £19,378 has been made. The largest saving so far has been £3,500 on a joint gas and electric bill - while another company reduced a joint bill by 77 per cent. Stephen Welch, chief executive of Coventry Best for Business, which carries out the BID scheme has urged more companies to see what they could save. He said: "This is the simplest of services and it's saving companies massive amounts of money. "You send off either your gas or electric bills, or both, to us and within two working days you're told whether you can make a saving. "Some businesses are tied into contracts with suppliers, whether they know it or not, but we can help them understand what they need to do to make savings as soon as possible. "Large firms are seeing bills cut by thousands of pounds, while smaller businesses that have used the scheme have saved hundreds from their annual spend. "It's a scheme that can only get stronger and I'd firmly advise BID companies to get in touch and let us try to save them money, instantly." The BID is also set to launch a cost reduction service for stationery in June.
