Broadband Project Update Print

Background

Coventry City Council is in the process of implementing a city wide fibre network, known as a Metropolitan Area Network (MAN). This will bring great benefits to Coventry by providing cost effective fast communications for public services across the city.

This project is the first of its kind in the UK and will make Coventry more attractive to businesses looking to relocate to the region.

Coventry Citywide BID is working with Coventry City Council in order to utilise this new infrastructure together with additional fibre and a wireless solution to deliver a CCTV & Broadband solution. The BID element is approximately 25% of the overall Council project.

Broadband

Although it has always been recognised that not all businesses will want to take up the broadband offer, those who do should ensure they have registered their interest by completing the Broadband Agreement which can be found on our website.

Crime Reduction / CCTV

The CCTV element of our crime reduction service will offer 24/7 actively monitored cameras across the 84 business areas within the citywide BID area supported by mobile patrols and a Crime Reduction Advisor.

Under certain circumstances we have been able to provide a temporary crime reduction solution over and above the mobile patrols.

CCTV & Broadband Project Update

There are a number of phases to this project summarised as

  1. Preparation - COMPLETE

  2. Implementation

    1. Central Infrastructure

      1. Physical - COMPLETE

      2. Broadband - COMPLETE

      3. CCTV - COMPLETE

    2. Rollout Plan per Business Area - Commenced

      1. Connectivity to CCC infrastructure

      2. Permissions

      3. Installation

  3. Project Close

2b Rollout Plan

In order to complete the rollout for each Business Area there are 3 dependencies. These 3 elements have to be in place

  1. Connectivity

Each site needs to be connected to Coventry City Council's infrastructure and routed back to the Central Infrastructure. We therefore have a dependency on the Council's project in order to complete this element.

  1. Permissions

Broadband Agreements need to be signed by landlords and tenants in order to give us permission to erect the appropriate equipment.

  1. Installation

Once items I & II are in place Coventry City Council's contractor will install and commission the appropriate equipment which will provide the service.

NB

As the BID rollout project is now well and truly under way, we are looking at ways of accelerating the installation programme.

Where we have completed connectivity to the CCC Infrastructure, we have already found that Business Areas that are engaging with the BID and giving the relevant permissions required have been able to move up the schedule more quickly eg. Newgate Court is now live a month earlier than the original project schedule.

Clicking the link below will take you to a spreadsheet giving details of the progress of specific business areas.

Here you will see

  1. Site Name

Each business area is allocated a number for additional clarity. If you are unable to locate your business area, please call the BID and we will advise which site number you come under.

  1. Effort

This is the number of man days required to complete a specific business area. This will vary from site to site.

  1. Start Date

Although we have started contacting all sites, this date refers to the first day of preparation for site installation.

  1. Target End Date

This date is the planned end date provided the dependencies are met.

  1. Temporary Crime Reduction Services

Where we have identified opportunities to provide additional crime reduction services.

  1. Estimated End Date

This is the projected date change where dependencies have allowed us to either complete sites ahead of schedule or have caused target end date slippage.

  1. Dependencies

    1. Connectivity

    2. Permissions

    3. Installation
